We have partnered with the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife to build and maintain a small craft boat launch at this site. Depending on the current and water level you can launch a kayak or canoe at the Hyde Road launch and reach the mouth of the Yakima River in 4-7 hours. Plan to see plenty of waterfowl: in the summer you may see osprey working the water and in the winter bald eagles will visit this lower reach of the Yakima in search of waterfowl and spent salmon. If it is breezy prepare for a hard paddle as you reach the mouth, especially if the wind is out of the south west. It is a great river to float in the fall as the cottonwood, silver maple and sumac explode with color.
This is Site #8 of the Tapteal Water Trail.
Follow Van Giesen Street to Kingtson Road and take a left on Hyde Road to the boat launch. You will need a WDFW access pass to park at the boat launch.
